Editorial policy

These are the standards every article on Northline Times is expected to meet.

Accuracy

We check facts against primary sources wherever possible: official documents, research papers and data from the organisations responsible for them. Explainers list their sources at the end so you can check them yourself.

Fairness and independence

We aim to represent different views fairly and to give people the chance to respond to criticism. We do not accept payment for coverage.

Opinion is labelled

Opinion columns appear in the Opinion section, carry the writer’s name and a clear label, and represent the writer’s own view.

Headlines

Headlines must be supported by the article beneath them. We do not use headlines that withhold the point of a story to get clicks. Read how we write headlines.

Images

We only publish images we have the right to use: illustrations made for the site, or freely licensed photos with the photographer and licence credited under the picture.

Advertising

Ads appear only in spaces labelled “Advertisement” and are kept visibly separate from our journalism. Advertisers do not choose, review or influence what we write, and we do not publish paid content dressed up as articles.

No invented numbers

We do not publish invented statistics, reader counts or popularity rankings. Lists such as “Long reads” are based on facts we can show, like article length.
